The Accelerating Regional Business Growth (ARBG) project, implemented in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, is launching a new Trade Facilitation Program that is designed for ambitious companies in East Africa that are interested in starting and/or further expanding their cross-border trade activities. The program is looking to work with SMEs located in and around Addis Ababa; Kampala; Kigali; Dar es Salaam; Lusaka; Nairobi; and Khartoum.
The first component of the Trade Facilitation Program is a two-part, virtual training. The first training session will focus on trade liberalization in Africa and explain the current status of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, as well as the benefits for SMEs. The second training session will hone in on how to operationalize trade-related goals by creating a market entry strategy, export marketing plan and import diversification strategy. These training sessions will be on June 5 and 6.
Over the course of the training, participants will better understand:
  • Recent developments related to trade liberalization in Africa;
  • The benefits of regional trade;
  • Strategies that can be deployed when looking to increase trade;
  • How to develop regional market entry strategies and execute trade plans;
  • Tools that can be used to facilitate their (new) regional market entry.
Business leaders that complete the two-part training will be eligible to apply to a Trade Mentorship program and receive customized support in implementing their trade plans for a period of up to 18 months.
This program is a part of the Accelerating Regional Business Growth Program, which is dedicated to catalyzing regional economic integration through the avenue of trade and investment facilitation. East Africa is well-positioned to experience significant private sector growth in the coming decade fueled by increased regional integration, policy reform, trade and investment.
The program is supported by the Government of Canada – there are no costs for participating.
